HOW TO PLAY?

WhirlyBall is a team sport and a fun group activity. The playing court is approximately 4,000 sq. ft. and there are 10 WhirlyBugs™ on the playing court at one time, five red and five yellow.
The objective is for each team to effectively pass the whiffle ball between team members and successfully toss the ball through the hole in the backboard of the opposing team.
In one hand the player has a Jai-Alai style plastic scoop and in the other hand a steering crank. The ball being tossed around is a softball sized whiffle ball.
At each end of the court there are vertically hung backboards with a 15 inch hole in the center. Behind the hole is a netted swing gate equipped with a buzzer or light to notify the referee when a score is made.
The referee is the person sitting in the mezzanine above the court who will call play by play during the game, keep score and assess any penalties incurred but mostly the ref is there to make your games of WhirlyBall as much fun as possible!

PLAY RULES
1 ) Fasten your safety belt.
2 ) Stay in you WhirlyBug at all times unless directed by referee to leave your WhirlyBug.
3 ) Do not use your hands to retrieve the ball except when the ball falls inside your WhirlyBug.
4 ) Always keep hands above the bumper.
5 ) Eye protection is available upon request at no charge.
6 ) Your scoop is used to pick up, pass and shoot the ball. Please do not use your scoop to slap another players’ scoop, body or WhirlyBug.
7 ) Never, ever let your scoop get crushed. 8 point penalty.
8 ) As in all sporting activities, there is the element of physical risk. WhirlyBall is no exception. You play at your own risk.

This is an OFFICIAL WHIRLYBUG™. Molded from secret ingredients and futuristic engineering, this innocent looking vehicle will propel you at speeds upwards of three… maybe four miles an hour! Now, granted that may not sound fast, but when you’re on an enclosed basketball sized court with nine other cars like this, the action can be fast and furious. The key is the special steering mechanism which allows you to turn in any direction at any time, anywhere. A word of advice . . . BUCKLE UP! It’s not only required, but it’s a major penalty if you take your seat belt off while the court is on.
The only piece of equipment you need to begin playing WhirlyBall is a plastic device called a ‘scoop’. All WhirlyBall centers provide regularly maintained scoops before you begin play. The scoops hang on a rack inside the playing court. If you bring your own scoop, please have a staff member examine the scoop to make sure it’s up to Whirly specifications.
The whiffle ball is a softball sized plastic ball with holes that is used during the course of the game to score your points.
For keeping score.
